No single reason can be a contributor to the extensive agricultural contamination we face today. Agriculture is an intricate activity in which the development of yields and livestock must be balanced completely. The process of agricultural contamination originates from the many stages their growth go through. And then, reasons for agricultural pollution are identified as follows:

1. Pesticides and fertilizers

To start with, the most ultimate source of contamination has been pesticides and fertilizers. Contemporary pesticides and fertilizers have to manage the local pests that have existed for many years alongside the new intrusive species. Thus, they are full of chemicals that are not found in nature.

When they have been sprayed, it doesn't vanish totally. Some of it blends in the water and saturates the ground. The remainder is consumed by the plant itself. Subsequently, the local streams that are provided water from the ground get polluted, as do the animals that eat these harvests and plants.

2. Contaminated water

Contaminated water used for irrigation is one further source of contamination. A great part of the water we use originates from groundwater supplies, canals and through the rains. While a lot of it is clean and pure water, different sources are contaminated with organic compounds and heavy metals. This occurs because of the transfer of industrial and agricultural waste in nearby bodies of water.

3. Soil erosion and sedimentation

Further issues are brought about by soil erosion and sedimentation. The soil contains many layers and it is just the highest layer that can support cultivating or grazing. Because of ineffective cultivating practices, this soil is left open for erosion and prompts declining fertility every year. Regardless of being worn away by water or wind, all this soil must be deposited some place or the other.

4. Livestock

5. Pests and weeds

Developing extraordinary fields and decreasing the natural species in a specific zone has turned into the standard for agribusiness. Be that as it may, it is just adding to the process of agricultural contamination. With the appearance of new crops, the native population has to encounter with new diseases, pests, and weeds that it has not ability to combat.

Therefore, the intrusive species wipe out the local vegetation and wildlife, changing the ecosystem for all time. This is particularly the situation with genetically modified foods, which make plant and animal species that can destroy the current species in several years.
